The Press Release
One of the most powerful publicity tools you have in the web-based music business today is the Press Release. What is a Press Release?
An announcement to the media about a specific event or single occurrence. In the music industry this may include any of the following: a gig announcement, the release date of a new CD, change in a tour itinerary, replacement of a band member, opening of a new or remodeled studio, just to name a few events worthy of issuing a press release.

Prior to the web, Public Relations experts were primarily the ones who issued Press Releases in hope of attracting the media so they would write a story about you. In today’s Web 2.0 world you can write a Press Release and post it to your website or MySpace or Facebook page and it will be directly seen by your fans. In addition, you can also submit it to an online site that distributes press releases to all the important media outlets. Then they might contact you directly for a story.
